Most importantly, the Arca is a place where people can feel like they truly belong and where they can feel completely taken care of thanks to a team that is wholeheartedly dedicated to unforgettable service. We are thrilled to announce the soft opening of the Arca and we look forward to welcoming Hong Kongers and future visitors on a special Wong Chuk Hang getaway.”
Designed in collaboration with local design studio Design Eight Five Two (DEFT) with the ethos of ‘every detail matters’, the Arca is the product of more than two years of rigorous bespoke design. The Arca’s aesthetic is borne from a unique combination of refined materiality and playfulness, where the building’s original concrete features are seamlessly blended with modern elements such as terrazzo flooring. Across different areas such as the multi-function hall and bar/lounge, the use of custom-designed decorative lighting, hand-picked fabrics, copper detailing, concrete plaster walls and timber furniture help define each space with a unique feel.
The main hotel entrance on the ground floor features a contrast of textures and colours as the façade’s charcoal grey bricks lead to a peach-mirrored reception desk backed by a full height wall of glazed half-round ceramic tiles, all atop a swirling epoxy floor. Guest rooms adopt a light material palette using austere, earthy tones and oak veneer, while suites are defined with a slightly cooler palette that lends plenty of ambiance. The attention to detail throughout the Arca continues in thoughtful design touches such as custom branded shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and soap packages.
Peter Lampard, co-founder of DEFT and designer of the Arca, says, “We set out to make the Arca the destination where elegant design meets a playful soul. We started by infusing playfully muted colors into raw industrial materials such as brick, concrete, and weathered steel. There were also some unique scenarios that required us to create even more bespoke design solutions. For example, for the podium facade, we devised a custom terracotta brick cladding system that flows around the building’s existing mechanical openings which effectively turns these necessities into design elements.”
As an art and design cultural destination, the Arca presents a diverse curation of over 40 artworks by some of Hong Kong’s most celebrated artists and up-and-coming talents alongside work from the international art scene. Commissioned local works include the rooftop mural overlooking the infinity pool by Hong Kong mural artists Rebecca Lin and Carol Mui AKA #creativehustlers and the “Meet Tourist” photography series by Laurent Segretier, the Paris-based French fine art photographer, which is displayed in guest rooms. International artworks are highlighted with a sculptural lighting piece at the hotel lobby by Elizabeth Lyons, award-winning sculptor and designer from New York, Immortal’s Incline by Scottish sculptor Kirsteen Pieterse located on the ground floor at the carpark entrance, as well as a sculpture at the third floor terrace by Italian sculptor Roberto Barni.
